PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To inexpensively provide an electrode for spot welding, even in the case of spot welding under a high electric current accompanied by pressurization, in which the welding or alloying with a plating metal is inhibited, and the generation of cracks is prevented, and which has a long life. SOLUTION : In an electrode 1 where a core material 3 using W as a base material is imbedded in a contacting face 2a contacting with a material to be welded in an electrode body 2 made of Cu or Cu alloy, as the core material, a W material in which fine particles composed of at least one or more kinds of compounds selected from an oxide, a nitride, a carbide, a boride or the like of a 2A group element, a 4A group element, a 5A group element, a 6a group element or a rare earth element, having a melting point of 2, 400°C and having a mean particle diameter of ≤2 μm are dispersed in an amount of 0.5 to 10 vol% in total is used. By the action of the dispersed fine particles, not only the welding or alloying between the material to be welded and the electrode is inhibited and stable spot welding is made possible, but also the generation and propagation of cracks in the vicinity of the contacting face are inhibited and the service life of the electrode is improved.
