PURPOSE : An active material for a battery is provided to realize excellent lithium ion conductivity and to inhibit a core material from reacting with an electrolyte, thereby imparting excellent capacity, lifespan and thermal stability to a battery. CONSTITUTION : An active material(1) for a battery comprises : a core material(3) comprising a compound capable of electrochemical oxidation/reduction; and a lithium ion conductive layer(5) surrounding the core material, wherein the lithium ion conductive layer comprises a compound selected from lithium ion conductors, lithium ion conductive polymers and mixtures thereof, and the lithium ion conductor is a compound represented by the formula of Li1+yM2-yXz (wherein M is selected from the group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, Group 13 and 14 elements, transition metals, rare earth metals and combinations thereof, X is selected from the group consisting of -(PO4), -(VO4), -(NbO4) and combinations thereof, y ranges from 0 to 2, and z ranges from 1 to 3). © KIPO 2008
