PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide rare-earth alloy powder for a permanent magnet, having strong coercive force by treating a large amount of alloy powder so that the powder has a homogeneous magnetic characteristics. SOLUTION : Rare-earth alloy powder is manufactured by heat-treating R-T-(M)-B alloy powder (R, T and M respectively represents an rare-earth element including Y, Fe or a mixture of Fe and Co, an added element, and B boron) in a hydrogen atmosphere. At executing of the heat treatment in the hydrogen atmosphere, the alloy powder is filled into treatment vessels 100 each of which is provided with a pair of side face sections which are arranged, so that the interval (d) between them becomes 30 mm or smaller, a bottom face section connecting one ends of the side face sections to each other, and an opening formed on the opposite side of the bottom face section. The vessels 100 are mounted on a frame 170 in a state, in which the vessels 100 are separated from each other by 15 mm or larger via spacers 103.
