PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a member which is useful for sintering or heat treating a metal, a ceramic or a cermet, has high mechanical strengths and excellent heat resistance, corrosion resistance and inertness and is inexpensive. SOLUTION : The heat resistant tool useful for sintering or heat treating the metal, the ceramic or the cermet is constituted of : a member 2 of an oxide sintered compact containing at least one rare earth element and having a thickness of 0.5 to 10 mm; and a member 1 containing at least one selected from the group of carbon, Al2 O3 , AlN, BN, SiO2 , SiC, Si3 N4 , ZrO2 , mullite, and cordierite. The heat resistant tool is characterized in that the member 2 of the oxide sintered compact containing at least one rare earth element is brought into contact with the metal, the ceramic or the cermet 3.
