The rare earth-containing compound particles of polyhedral shape, have an average particle diameter of 3-100 Micro, dispersion index of up to 0.5, and an aspect ratio of up to 2. Independent claims are included for the following : (1) Article which comprises a substrate having a coating of the thermal sprayed rare earth-containing compound particles; and (2) Preparation of rare earth-containing compound particles which involves performing thermal spraying of the particles onto the substrate.
