PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a surface-coated tool with high wear and chipping resistance.
SOLUTION : In this surface-coated tool, the surface of a substrate is covered with a covering layer 1 made of Ti1-a-bA1aMb(CxN1-x) (M includes one or more elements selected from group 4, 5, 6 elements in the periodic table, rare earth elements, and Si, excluding Ti. Herein, 0.4≤a≤0.65, 0≤b≤0.3, and 0≤x≤1). The covering layer 1 is composed mainly of column crystals 2 grown in the vertical direction relative to the surface of the substrate 10. Granular crystals 3 exist inside thereof, and the number of column crystals 2b greater than that of column crystals 2a grown on the lower side of the granular crystals 3 are grown on the upper side having granular crystals 3 as their starting points. Wear resistance is high, and the chipping resistance is improved.
