[Problem] To provide a rare-earth permanent magnet that has a higher coercive force than conventional SmFe12 or SmFe11Ti and that includes La, which is inexpensive and abundant among the resources. [Solution] The rare-earth permanent magnet of the present invention comprises a main phase and grain boundary phases, wherein the main phase is an R-T compound having a ThMn12-form crystal structure, where R comprises La as an essential element and one or more rare-earth elements selected from among Y, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu, and T is Fe, or is Fe and Co, or is the element(s) partly replaced with M (M is at least one element selected from among Ti, V, Cr, Mo, W, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Al, Si, Cu, Zn, Ga, and Ge), and wherein the grain boundary phases include an La-rich phase σ, the La-rich phase σ having a cubic crystal structure and having an La content of 20 at% or higher, the proportion in cross-sectional area of the La-rich phase σ in the grain boundary phases being 20% or higher.
