The present invention relates to a method for the synthesis of aldehyde oxydehydration thin gas phase of the corresponding alcohol to a temperature between 500 and 700 degrees C, under adiabatic conditions in the presence of a silver catalyst metal, characterized in that the dehydrogenation reaction is carried out in a reactor made of a metal or a metal alloy that can form an oxide layer chemically inert surface under normal operating conditions. More particularly, the metal is selected from titanium, zirconium or tantalum. The metallic alloys include at least 19% by weight of chromium and at least one alloying element selected from aluminum, silicon, manganese, magnesium, the total content of these metals is greater than 2% by weight, or selected from the rare earths lanthanum, yttrium or cerium with a concentration of between 0.1 and 0.5%.
