PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a process that can easily and efficiently decompose alkanes. SOLUTION : Alkanes are brought into contact with one or two or more kinds of alloys selected from the group consisting of MmNi4.15Fe0.85 (Mm : misch metal) alloy, MmNi4.5Zn0.65Cr0.55 alloy, LaNi4.9Al0.1 alloy and CaNi5 alloy at 400-700 deg.C to separate hydrogen from carbon in the alkanes and the separated hydrogen is occluded in the alloy.
