PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalytic combustion type gas detecting element having a short initial stabilization time, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION : The catalytic combustion type gas detecting element 1 is constituted by providing a combustion catalyst part 12 for making a gas to be detected combust to a noble metal wire 11, and the combustion catalyst part 12 contains a rare metal oxide and the apparent volume of the combustion catalyst part 12 is set to 0.014 mm3 or smaller.
