PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain an alloy of high capacitance excellent in high ratio discharging characteristics as the negative electrode material of a battery by forming a V-Ti-Ni alloy having mother phases composed of V-Ti solid solution, Ti-Ni 2nd phases forming a three-dimensional network skeleton and rare earth element-Ni-O 3rd phases. SOLUTION : This V-Ti-Ni alloy is obtd. by melting an allot raw material composed of VaTiNibMcRd (M denotes Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Ta and Nb, R denotes rare earth elements, and 1<=a<=10, 0.2<=b<=2, 0.02<=c<=0.5, and 0.01<=d<=0.5 are satisfied) and thereafter cooling and solidifying it at a cooling rate of 102 to 104 K/sec. Preferably, oxygen is contained by 200 to 5000 ppm. The compsn. of the Ti-Ni 2nd phases is composed of TiNiδNε (N denotes V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Ta and Nb, and 0.5<=δ<=2, and 0.1<=ε<=1 are satisfied). The average grain size of the mother phases composed of V-Ti solid solution is controlled to 1 to 50 μm as to the minor axis and to 3 to 100 μm as to the major axis. The high ratio service capacitance realizes the high capacitance of 150/g.
