PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a discharge lamp which is improved so that, even if ceramic constituting a fusion part is exposed at the back of the inside of a small diameter cylinder, the deterioration of light flux or a change of a light color is effectively suppressed by a reaction of the fusion part and isolated halogen.
SOLUTION : The discharge lamp MHL includes a translucent airtight vessel 1 having an enclosure part 1a and a small diameter cylinder 1b, and having a seal part SP formed at the end of the small diameter cylinder, a current introducing conductor 2 introduced inside by penetrating the seal part airtightly, electrodes 3, and a discharge medium. The seal part SP is formed by using the ceramic of the substantially same property as that of the ceramic of the end of the small diameter cylinder as a main composition, arranging a ceramic sleeve 4 in which the current introducing conductor penetrates the end of the small diameter cylinder, and fusing the ceramic sleeve, the end of the small diameter cylinder and the current introducing conductor, and at least a part exposed to the inside of the small diameter cylinder of the translucent airtight vessel contains a rare earth metal oxide.
