PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a rare-earth-iron-nitrogen magnetic powder, which has high remanent magnetization, particularly superior coercive force and a superior squareness ratio, and further excellent heat resistance, and to provide the rare-earth-iron-nitrogen magnetic powder obtained thereby. SOLUTION : The objective method for manufacturing the rare-earth-iron- nitrogen magnetic powder comprises the steps of mixing at least metallic calcium with the mixed powder containing a rare earth oxide into a raw mixture, then calcinating the above raw mixture in an inert gas atmosphere, subsequently calcinating it in the atmosphere containing nitrogen gas into a nitride block, and rinsing the above nitride block to remove a by-product containing calcium as a main component, wherein the above raw mixture contains a calcium compound.
