PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a large capacity alkaline storage battery which is inexpensive and has a sufficient battery voltage by improving a hydrogen storage alloy for the alkaline storage battery consisting of a rare earth-Mg-Ni based hydrogen storage alloy. SOLUTION : The hydrogen storage alloy for the alkaline storage battery satisfying the following general formula is used for a negative electrode of the alkaline storage battery; (Ln1-xCex)1-yMGyNia-b-cM1bM2c wherein Ln is at least one kind of element selected from rare earth elements including Y and excluding Ce, Ti and Zr, M1 is at least one kind of element selected from V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, Al, Ga, Zn, Sn, In, Si, P and B and M2 is at least one kind of element selected from Mn, Fe, Co and Cu. In the formula, x, y, a, b and c satisfy the following conditions; 0.10≤x≤1.00, 0.05≤y≤0.35, 2.8≤a≤3.9, 0≤b≤0.5, 0≤c≤1.0. COPYRIGHT : (C)2008, JPO&INPIT
