ELECTRODE FOR COLD-CATHODE FLUORESCENT LAMP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an electrode for a cold-cathode fluorescent lamp with an excellent electron emission property and a cold-cathode fluorescent lamp equipped with the electrode. SOLUTION : The cold-cathode fluorescent lamp 1 is provided with a cup-shape electrode 12 in a glass tube 10. The electrode 12 is provided with a low-work-function layer on the surface of a base material with a work function lower than the base material. The base material consists of nickel or a nickel alloy. The low-work-function layer is constituted of an intermetallic compound of nickel as a component element of the base material and a rare-earth element. Therefore, the low-work-function layer is excellent in adhesion with the bases material, hardly being peeled off at an initial stage of use of the lamp 1, functioning as an electron emission layer over a long period. The lamp 1, as it is equipped with the electrode 12 with such a low-work-function layer, remains to be excellent in an electron emission property over a long period. COPYRIGHT : (C)2008, JPO&INPIT
