PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical fiber for optical amplification that is large in absorption coefficient and in dispersion. SOLUTION : This optical fiber is provided with a core section 1 doped with at least one kind of rare-earth element, such as erbium for example; a first clad section 2 having a refractive index smaller than that of the core section 1 around the section 1; and a second clad section 5 having a refractive index larger than that of the first clad section 2 and smaller than that of the core section 1 around the clad section 2 and constituted in a W-shaped refractive index profile.
