PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve a viewing angle of an IPS (in-plane switching) mode liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION : The liquid crystal display device comprises a polarizing plate having a polarizing film and a protective film disposed at least on one face of the polarizing film, wherein a slow axis of the protective film intersects at least one out of an absorption axis of the polarizing film or an average alignment control direction of a liquid crystal layer, and further the protective film is a cellulose acylate film satisfying inequalities (I) : 0≤Re(630)≤10, and ¾Rth(630)¾≤25, and an inequality (II) : ¾Re(400)-Re(700)¾≤10.
