PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst of high catalyst activities demonstrating the cleaning action effective even in a low temperature zone. SOLUTION : A catalyst active substance and a fire-resistance inorganic oxide are carried on a carrier of an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst, and the catalyst active substance is a coprecipitated burnt powder containing one or two kinds of rare earth metal elements formed by a coprecipitation process and containing at least a cerium and also at least one kind metal element selected from the group of Ag, Cu, Pt, Pd, Rh and Pb. The catalyst is provided with high catalytic activities and demonstrating the cleaning action effective even in a low temperature zone.
