PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a porous material for an R-Fe-B based permanent magnet that exhibits higher magnetic characteristics, particularly, higher squareness compared with a conventional bond magnet and has a higher degree of shape freedom than a conventional sintered magnet.
SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing a porous material for an R-Fe-B based permanent magnet includes a process for preparing R-Fe-B based rare-earth alloy powder having an average particle size of <20 μm, a process for forming a green compact by molding the R-Fe-B based rare-earth alloy powder, a process for causing a hydrogenation and disproportionation reaction by applying heat treatment to the green compact at a temperature of ≥550°C and <650°C in hydrogen gas, and a process for causing a dehydrogenation and recombination reaction by applying heat treatment to the green compact at a temperature of ≥550°C and <1, 000°C in vacuum or in an inert atmosphere.
