PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a carbon dioxide gas sensor capable of detecting only carbon dioxide gas without being affected at all by various gases including water vapor. SOLUTION : The solid electrolyte carbon dioxide gas sensor element includes a detection pole containing; a cation conductive solid electrolyte having bivalent or higher-valency cations as main conductive ion species; an oxide ion conductive solid electrolyte; and a solid solution made by partly replacing a rare-earth element in a rare-earth carbonate oxide with an alkaline earth metal element.
