[docdb]PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a polymer-hydrogenation process that can attain high productivity that has never been reached by the conventional technology. SOLUTION : When the carbon-carbon unsaturated bonds in a polymer are catalytically hydrogenated to the carbon-carbon saturated bonds over a platinum metal hydrogenation catalyst, (1) a carrier including at least one kind of metal basic component selected from alkali metals, alkaline earth metals and rare earth metals is brought into contact with a solution of a platinum metal compound whereby the platinum metal component is insolubilized and fixed to the carrier, (2) the amount of the platinum metal on the carrier is 0.1-10 wt.% based on the carrier, (3) the surface area of the platinum metal is 40-250 m2/g- metal and (4) the platinum metal is supported more than 90% on the surface layer of the supporter in a depth of <=1/10 of the carrier diameter from the outer surface of the carried to the inside in the depth direction.
