PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an earth-retaining structure using a steel pipe having a structure easily ensuring a cutoff property, a construction method for the earth-retaining structure and a starting-arrival construction method for a shield machine. SOLUTION : The earth-retaining structure 1 is formed by driving the steel pipe 2 into a ground 17. In the earth-retaining structure 1, an opening section 5 for passing the shield machine is formed to a part of the steel pipe 2 while a steel plate 6 for a gate is arranged as covering the opening section 5 and being superposed outside the steel pipe 2 under a closely contacting state. Consequently, a double steel pipe section 8 composed of the steel pipe 2 and the steel plate 6 for the gate is fitted, and the steel plate for the gate is configured in a retractible manner from the place of the opening section by sliding the outside of the steel pipe.
