PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for controlling exhaust gas, the activity of which can be recovered by redistributing a platinum particle, which is exposed to high-temperature exhaust gas for a long time and the grain of which is grown, into minute platinum particles in a short time even in a comparatively low temperature range and to provide a method for regenerating the catalyst for controlling exhaust gas.
SOLUTION : The catalyst for controlling exhaust gas is provided with : a first catalyst layer comprising a first carrier containing a first multiple oxide of zirconia and/or alumina and at least one element, which is selected from the group consisting of alkaline-earth metal elements, rare earth elements and group 3A elements and contains cerium, and platinum deposited on the first carrier; and a second catalyst layer which comprises a second carrier containing a second multiple oxide of zirconia and/or alumina and at least one element selected from the group consisting of alkaline-earth metal elements, rare earth elements other than cerium and group 3A elements, and platinum deposited on the second carrier and which is arranged on the surface layer side of the first catalyst layer.
