PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To markedly reduce a production cost by diminishing production steps by using a rare earth metal oxide directly as a starting material without converting it into a salt in the production of a rare earth metal complex, especially a fluorescent rare earth metal complex. SOLUTION : In the production of a rare earth metal complex, a mixture of a solvent in which a rare earth metal oxide powder is dispersed with an at least stoichiometric amount of an inorganic acid is heated, during which time a ligand supply starting material is added thereto and reacted therewith.
