PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an environmental barrier coating (10) of a constituent containing silicon having a first coefficient of thermal expansion. SOLUTION : This environmental coating contains a silicon bond coat (30) which is bonded to at least a part of the outer surface of the constituent. Intermediate layers (25, 27, and 29) are bonded to the silicon bond coat, and has a second coefficient of thermal expansion aligned to the first coefficient of thermal expansion. The intermediate layers have a general composition of RE2Si2O7. A protective layer (36) is bonded to the intermediate layer and has a general composition of RE2SiO5. A surface layer (38) is bonded to the protective layer. The surface layer contains RE, and has a ratio of RE to oxygen of at least 2 : 3. COPYRIGHT : (C)2007, JPO&INPIT
