The invention concerns an alloy for cast iron modification, the silicon contains and additional inclusions of magnesium and rare-earth metals with the following relationship of the components (%) exhibits : Silicon 45-78, strontium 0.1-2, calcium 0.1-1.5, aluminum 0.3-2, zirconium 0.1-2, magnesium 0.1-7, rare-earth metals 0.1-2.2 and the remainder iron. For the graphitisierende treatment of the cast iron the alloy 0, 1 contains 1% magnesium, 0, 1 0.2% calcium, 0, 3 0.5% aluminum and 0, 1 of 0.3% rare-earth metals. For the graphitisierende and sphäroidisierende treatment of the cast iron contains the alloy 4 7% magnesium, 0, 2 1% calcium, 0, 5 1.5% aluminum, 0, 1 0.3% zirconium, and the rare-earth metals are from individual elements, as Lantan and/or neodymium, in a quantity of 0, 2 - 0.5% of the total quantity represent. The alloy of the content in accordance with the invention dissolves a brightening up in a thin-walled casting; the hardness and the mouldability of the cast iron are increased, and those reproduction of the modifying effect is guaranteed.
