OPTICAL MATERIAL HAVING HIGH REFRACTIVE INDEX AND LOW DISPERSION CHARACTERISTIC

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical material which is composed of an organic medium containing rare earth metals, has a high refractive index and low dispersion characteristics and is high in uniform dispersibility of the rare earth metals in the organic medium even if these metals do not contain an auxiliary component, such as a dispersant. SOLUTION : The optical material contains the organic medium, and metal clusters dispersed in the organic medium and is characterized in that (1) the metal clusters include a central metal composed of the rare earth metals and a counter metal existing via oxygen atoms with respect to the central metal; (2) the counter metal is at least one kind selected from the group consisting of Al, Ga, Zr, Hf, Nb, and Ta; (3) the optical material has the high refractive index and the low dispersion characteristics.
