PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas from a diesel engine, which is used for oxidizing/burning PM (particulate) efficiently even in a low-temperature zone, whose oxidizing activity of CO and HC (hydrocarbon) is restrained from being deteriorated and by which the white smoke to be generated when a filter is regenerated is restrained from being discharged.
SOLUTION : An inflow-side oxidation catalyst-coated layer containing at least one metal selected from alkali metals and alkaline-earth metals is formed on the surface of a partition wall of a cell on the inflow side and an outflow-side oxidation catalyst-coated layer containing neither alkaline metal nor alkaline-earth metal is formed on the surface of the partition wall of the cell on the outflow side. PM is oxidized efficiently by the inflow-side oxidation catalyst-coated layer and HC is oxidized efficiently by the outflow-side oxidation catalyst-coated layer.
