PURPOSE : Provided is a transparent sintered yttrium oxide product, which avoids a need for the use of aluminum easily separated at boundaries of yttrium oxide, uses no special material, and requires no pulverization step. CONSTITUTION : The transparent sintered yttrium oxide product comprises yttrium oxide as a main ingredient and at least one of tantalum and niobium, and shows an inline transmission of at least 60%% in a visible light range of 400-800 nm, when the sintered yttrium oxide product has a thickness of 1 mm. In the sintered yttrium oxide product, the tantalum and niobium are present in an amount of 0.1-1.3 wt%% and 0.05-0.5 wt%%, respectively, as expressed on the metal basis. The preparation method comprises : adding one of tantalum, tantalum complex, niobium, and niobium complex to yttrium oxide power; forming a yttrium body; and sintering the yttrium body at 1700-2000 deg.C under atmosphere of vacuum, hydrogen, or rare gas. © KIPO 2007
