PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas capable of accomplishing enhancement of an exhaust gas cleaning performance and DPF with a catalyst capable of accomplishing enhancement of a combustion speed of the captured PM. SOLUTION : The catalyst for cleaning the exhaust gas provided on an exhaust system of an engine and cleaning the exhaust gas and the catalyst provided on the diesel particulate filter and burning a particulate substance in the exhaust gas contain a composite oxide of Zr, at least one kind of rare earth metal except for Ce and a noble metal. The rare earth metal is selected from Y, Yb, Nd and Sc and the composite oxide is obtained by mixing an acidic solution containing a Zr ion, at least one kind of rare earth metal ion other than a Ce ion and a noble metal ion with a basic solution and calcining a precursor of the composite oxide obtained by coprecipitation.
