The component includes a thin layer (4) having a transitional region (5) allowing the adiabatic passage of light between an uncovered section (2b) and the thin layer. Within the transitional region, an edge (5) of the thin layer cuts the ion-exchanged region (2), which forms a channel, at a predetermined angle ( alpha 1), less than 1 degrees , so as to define covered, uncovered and partially covered regions. An alternative has a transitional region in which the thickness of the thin layer from maximum to zero by means of a ramp of angle less than 1 degrees . The thin layer forming the monomode waveguide comprises an oxide, a glass or a polymer and may be doped with rare earths.
