PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal-halide lamp suppressed in red-purple luminescence after lamp start-up. SOLUTION : The metal halide lamp is provided with a translucent airtight vessel 1 equipped with a light-emitting tube 11 forming a discharge space 13, and sealing parts 121, 122 formed at both ends of the light-emitting tube 11, a discharge medium with at least a halide of sodium and indium and rare gas sealed in the discharge space 13 and essentially not containing mercury, and a pair of electrodes 31, 32 with one-side ends sealed in the sealing parts 121, 122 and other ends arranged in opposition in the discharge space 13. A relation of a sealed amount a of a halide of sodium and a sealed amount b of a halide of indium satisfies : 270≤a/b≤480. COPYRIGHT : (C)2007, JPO&INPIT
