PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a discharge lamp free from scattering and capable of obtaining the high durability of airtightness at an airtight sealing part and a long use life, in a process of forming the airtight sealing part in a coating film having a barrier function of restraining the diffusion of an alkaline ion existing in quartz glass in metal foil formed on the metal foil during its manufacturing process. SOLUTION : The discharge lamp 10 is provided with a discharge vessel having a light-emitting tube 12 made of quartz glass with a pair of electrodes arranged inside, and a sealing part 13 fitted at the end of the light-emitting tube with metal foil made of molybdenum forming an electricity guide-in body buried at the sealing part of the discharge vessel. A coating film is made of a specific rare-earth metal molybdenum oxide is formed on at least one face of the metal foil. COPYRIGHT : (C)2007, JPO&INPIT
