PURPOSE : An up-conversion optical fiber laser with an external cavity structure is provided to have high conversion efficiency, by improving optical coupling efficiency between the laser and an optical fiber by controlling polarization state and shape of a beam reversibly.
CONSTITUTION : A laser(31) outputs a first wavelength beam, and has an anti-reflection(AR) layer formed on a beam output facet and a high reflection(HR) layer formed on a counter plane. An up-conversion optical fiber(39) has a core doped with a rare earth material in order to output the first wavelength beam as a second wavelength beam. An output mirror(DM2) is arranged on an output part of the up-conversion optical fiber, and enables the laser and the optical fiber to operate as a resonator as to the first wavelength beam together with the high reflection layer of the laser. An input mirror(DM1) is arranged on an input part of the up-conversion optical fiber, and enables the optical fiber to operate as a resonator as to the second wavelength beam together with the output mirror. A polarization mode adjustment part(34) is arranged between the laser and the up-conversion optical fiber, and converts the beam incident on the laser from the optical fiber into a beam of peculiar polarization for the laser. A beam conversion part(35) is arranged between the polarization mode adjustment part and the up-conversion optical fiber, and converts the beam inputted from the polarization mode adjustment part into a shape required in the optical fiber and then outputs the converted beam to the optical fiber, and converts the beam inputted from the optical fiber into a shape required in the laser.
