PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To form a long-lived projection having no failure such as no dropout in a gas flow passage and to impart a catalytic function to the projection itself. SOLUTION : The catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas is composed of a base material having the gas flow passage having a straight flow structure and the projection which is projected from the surface of the gas flow passage and has ≥50 μm height. The projection consisting of a precipitate containing at least one catalytic metal selected from alkali metals and alkaline-earth metals. PM (Particulate Matter) flowing in the gas flow passage is made to collide against the projection, hindered from flowing and captured around the projection. Since the projection is formed of the precipitate containing at least one catalytic metal selected from alkali metals and alkaline-earth metals, the projection itself has such activity that a soot component of the PM is oxidized at the least.
