PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a titanium dioxide particle capable of generating the fluorescence based on a rare-earth element with a high efficiency, viz. a titanium dioxide particle in which a rare-earth element is substituted for a titanium site, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing the rare-earth element-doped titanium dioxide particle comprises a process for preparing a liquid precursor containing a titanium source and a rare-earth metal source in which an amount of the rare-earth element in the rare-earth metal source is in a range over 0 at% to 5.0 at%, a process for generating a thermal plasma, and a process for feeding the liquid precursor into the thermal plasma.
