PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To prepare a rare-earth doped multivalent metal fluoride nanoparticle having a luminescence function. SOLUTION : An aqueous solution of a fluoride is mixed with an aqueous solution of a host multivalent metal salt and an aqueous solution of a salt containing a rare-earth metal cation dopant to form a reaction mixture, in which a water-insoluble rare-earth doped multivalent metal fluoride nanoparticle is precipitated.
