The treatment unit consists of two or more tanks (1) that receive water contaminated with plant protection products, set at different levels and connected by overflows (2) that allow the water to flow from one tank to the next one downstream or beneath it. The tanks can be stacked one on top of another, and each one contains a culture medium (3), such as a mixture of earth or straw, suitable for the development of a population of bacteria that can partly or totally degrade the contaminating products. Each tank comprises a supporting frame (4) with radial members projecting from a central core and having vertical ends connected by an upper ring (8) and a sheet of an impermeable synthetic material (5).
