[PROBLEMS] To provide a hybrid luminescent device of novel construction making use of a rare earth metal complex in a luminescent layer and making use of an inorganic compound in place of an organic compound in an electron transport layer or hole transport layer. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] In a cathode polarization of crystalline porous zinc oxide thin-film from a zinc salt solution, a ligand having a site capable of coordination to zinc oxide surface and having a site for use in complex formation with rare earth ions through post-treatment is mixed in an electrocrystallization bath, followed by cathode polarization to thereby obtain a composite film of crystalline porous zinc oxide/ligand. Alternatively, template molecules for forming a porous structure are mixed in an electrocrystallization bath consisting of a zinc salt solution, followed by cathode polarization to thereby obtain a crystalline porous zinc oxide thin-film, and the crystalline porous zinc oxide thin-film is immersed in a solution of bridging ligand to thereby obtain a crystalline porous zinc oxide surface-modified with the bridging ligand. The obtained thin films are immersed in a solution having rare earth metal ions dissolved therein to thereby form a complex. Thus, there is obtained a luminescent device.
