PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a multimode optical fiber that significantly reduces the possibility of excitation light source deterioration or damage through the use of optical fiber laser emitting high-power light. SOLUTION : This optical fiber is a multimode optical fiber to be used for connecting a rare-earth additive optical fiber with a rare-earth element added as a medium to amplify the signal light of wavelength λ1 to excitation light source of wavelength λ2 for exciting the above rare-earth additive optical fiber. In this multimode fiber, the loss of wavelength λ1 is larger than that of wavelength λ2 and a difference between them is 0.1 dB/m or more. COPYRIGHT : (C)2007, JPO&INPIT
