A soda lime glass composition having pre-determined light transmission properties, the composition including at least one rare earth element or a compound thereof in an appropriate amount to affect the light transmission properties of the glass. Also a process for manufacturing a soda lime glass having pre-determined light transmission properties, the process comprising the step of including in the composition at least one rare earth element, or a compound thereof. The rare earth element may be cerium (Ce), praseodymium (Pr), neodymium (Nd) or erbium (Er).
