PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth magnet exhibiting excellent rust prevention performance as compared with a conventional one. SOLUTION : The rare earth magnet has such a structure as a protective layer 5 is formed on the surface of a magnet element 3. The protective layer 5 contains phosphoric acid metal salt and can obtain a spectrum including a peak originating in organic acid when it is analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
