PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an image forming apparatus decreasing a power consumption in a standby state and detecting a rare-short-circuit state of a power-supply output. SOLUTION : The image forming apparatus is driven by a fly-back type power supply. The power supply is operated intermittently by a CPU, and the power consumption is decreased by conducting an intermittent operation in an On Duty optimum for various load conditions by a constitution to decrease the power consumption in the standby state. An output voltage is lowered by setting the On Duty in the standby state at the maximum rated current value of the power supply when the output voltage becomes the rare-short-circuit, i.e. a load current flows at a specified current value or more and reaches the overcurrent detecting current or less of a power device. An abnormal-state detecting means detecting an abnormal state at a low cost by utilizing the reduction of a voltage value is constituted. COPYRIGHT : (C)2007, JPO&INPIT
