Catalysts for reactions catalyzed by heterogeneous catalysts contain active components and a support containing delta -alumina ( delta -Al2O3) in amounts detectable by x-ray diffraction. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of the catalyst by impregnating a support containing delta -Al2O3 with salts of copper, alkali metals and optionally alkaline earth metals, rare earth metals or mixture of this, separately or together, with addition of acid or oxidant if necessary.
