PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a technique of suppressing deformation at the time of sintering without deteriorating the magnetic characteristics of an R-T-B base rare earth sintered magnet.
SOLUTION : This invention is a production method of the rare earth sintered magnet composed of a sintered compact including an R2T14B phase (where R is one or two or more kinds of rare earth elements, T is Fe or one or two more kinds of transition metal elements essentially composed of Fe and Co), in which a molding is produced by molding a mixture including an alloy powder of a prescribed composition and a lubricant within a magnetic field. The molding is then heat treated in an inert gaseous atmosphere of ≥20 mW/mK in thermal conductivity at the temperature for the heat treatment and the heat treated molding is sintered. The lubricant is removed by the heat treatment, but by performing the lubricant treatment in the gaseous atmosphere where the thermal conductivity is high, i.e. heat is liable to be transmitted, the deformation during the sintering can be prevented.
