This invention provides a vessel for rare gas filling, which can realize a substantially completely circularly polarized state within the vessel by using a single crystal material for a window for light incidence of which the thickness and the direction of the crystal axis have been optimized, and a method for polarization of a rare gas atomic nucleus using the vessel. According to the vessel and polarization method, the alkali resistance is high, the pressure resistance is high, no permeation of 3He occurs, and, in addition, neutron absorption corresponding to application to basic science, for example, neutron scattering, is negligible. The vessel for rare gas filling comprises a vessel body (3), and a pipe (4), connected to the vessel body (3), for introducing a rare gas-containing gas and an alkali metal into the vessel body (3). A window (2) for light incidence, formed of a single crystal material, in which the thickness and the direction of the crystal axis have been regulated to a predetermined thickness and a predetermined direction, respectively, is provided in the vessel body (3). The vessel for rare gas filling is preferably formed of sapphire or the like.
