PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a hydrogen storage alloy improved in hydrogen occluding characteristics, particularly, in chemical stability and reversibility at the time of occluding hydrogen by forming an alloy having an A B type crystal structure and having a specified compsn. composed of Mg, Si, Ca, Cu or the like and elements having electronegativity higher than that of Mg. SOLUTION : This hydrogen storage alloy is the one having an A2 B type crystal structure and expressed by the general formula of Mg2-x (M11-y M2y )x (M1 denites Si, Ca, Cu, Ga, Ge, Sr, In, Sn, Ba, Ti, Pb, Th and rare earth elements including Y, M2 denotes elements having electronegativity higher than that of Mg, and -0.6
