PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a BaO-RE2 O3 -TiO2 -based dielectric material having a comparatively large dielectric constant εr , a temperature coefficient τf of a resonance frequency and a large no-load quantity factor QU, and further to provide a production method thereof. SOLUTION : This dielectric material contains <=5 pts.wt. one or more kinds of alkali metal oxides based on 100 pts.wt. main component composition consisting of xBaO-yRE2 O3 -zTiO2 (RE is a rare earth element; x+y+z=100). The εr and QU can be extremely improved without largely decreasing the tf by the alkali metal oxides. The RE is preferably Sm, or Sm and Nd and/or La. When producing the dielectric material, a dense sintered body is precisely obtained by using a raw material containing hydroxide group as a starting material of the rare earth element component in the main component composition.
