PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve raw material alloy powder for a rare earth sintered magnet particularly in a state of being subjected to molding in a magnetic field, and to provide a rare earth sintered magnet provided with high residual magnetic flux density and coercive force. SOLUTION : In the raw material alloy powder for a rare earth sintered magnet to be subjected to molding in a magnetic field, the content carbon determined by mass spectrometry is ≤1, 200 ppm and, providing that with respect to the characteristic X-rays of carbon determined by EPMA (Electron Probe Micro Analyzer), Cmax refers to the maximum value of X-ray intensity while Cmin refers to the minimum value of X-ray intensity, the ratio of Cmax/Cmin is ≤15. Preferably, the carbon content determined by mass spectrometry is ≤1, 000 ppm and Cmax/Cmin is ≤10. COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
