PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a powdery precursor composition suitable as a precursor material for preparing a YBCO-based superconductor having a long storage life and being directly usable for preparing a coating solution without a further prior treatment. SOLUTION : The powdery precursor composition contains a mixture consisting of salts of the constituent elements with an atomic ratio of RE : Ba : Cu=1 : 2 : 3, where the constituent elements exist as suitable salts, in particular, a trifluoroacetate, a acetate, or their mixture. The water content of the premixed powdery precursor composition is preferably less than 1.5 wt.% and more preferably less than 1 wt.%. Less water content seems to support its long storage life.
